There are dozen of tools for doing keyword research on the Web. Organizing your keywords as you’re doing research is the most important step to creating a great SEO or PPC campaign.

In some cases, you may not want to choose typical industry keywords, as they may be extremely competitive and not very targeted. Traffic from these type of search terms will not result in sales or leads, and will not help you retain longevity at the top of the search engine results.

Instead, focus on search terms where you can the most bang for your buck. For commerce websites, target terms that catch users in the buying stage of the purchase cycle. In other words, instead of optimizing for the search term "computer", you may want to optimize for a term such as "HP desktop computer prices" or "buy HP computers online".

Remember, if users don’t find your website useful, they will return to Google and you’ll get penalized by losing ranking in the search results. Try to be as relevant as possible to the targeted user and you’ll rank extremely well.
